In 1805 in Lincolnshire a heavily pregnant Mary Kirkham was found dead – she had been killed. A local Navvy called Tom Otter was soon arrested for her murder. They had married just the day before – unbeknownst to Mary it was Tom Otter’s second marriage and he already had another wife and child as well. Thought to have killed her to escape the responsibility of a family, Otter was found guilty of murder and sentenced to death. He was the last man in Lincolnshire to be gibbeted and his name is carried across the area. Mary Kirkham was buried in an unmarked grave. This is the story of Mary Kirkham.
