About this episode

The trial is underway for Matthew Farwell, a former Massachusetts police detective who is accused of murdering Sandra Birchmore, a pregnant woman who he was having an affair with. Farwell is accused of grooming Birchmore when she was underage and working for the department’s explorers program. But this is not your average murder trial. Criminal defense attorney Mark Bederow joins Brian to talk about what federal prosecutions have to prove in this case, allegations of scandals behind the scenes, and the connections to the Karen Read case.
