About this episode
1886 DAMASCUS Proposed Syrian Deployment In Yemen Campaign Ahmad Sharawi and Bill Roggio evaluate reported plans for Saudi Arabia to recruit Syrian government troops to fight the Houthis in Yemen. Sharawi argues that Syrian forces—despite rapid success against Assad—lack familiarity with Yemen’s terrain and would prove ineffective against battle-hardened Houthis. While specialized units like drone operators might offer minor assistance, sending 20,000 soldiers reflects Saudi desperation. Roggio emphasizes the security risks of deploying former extremist-linked fighters on the Arabian Peninsula. (10)
